"I made this!" "I created this concrete thing that means something to someone else!"
I have chosen this work in order to make a structure for myself and as a way to make a living. I could never have persevered if I had not also been enjoying myself.
After over thirty years practicing my profession, I have come to
identify myself as an artist.
My creative urges are pulling me in many directions right now: toward the exploration of figurative sculpture in bronze; toward the discovery of clay and all its many possibilities; the desire to create work in a variety of media that hold something of importance for its owner.
I am beginning to make sculpture that promised something a bit different. There are feelings and thoughts that I want to express. There are things I want to express, specifically through this new medium. I have larger ideas that require a shift from the small scale I have grown so accustom to as a goldsmith. The subjects which interest me now, are less about ornamentation and more pointed toward spiritual and philosophical issues.
I can't imagine not making jewelry, it has become so much a part of who I am.
I can imagine expanding the parts of who I am, and look forward to finding more means to that end.
